Free Interpreting Service for COVID-19 vaccinations
To support the Australian Government’s objective to encourage non-English speakers to be vaccinated against COVID-19, the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) has:
- Temporarily extended the Free Interpreting Service to now cover non-Medicare patients receiving their COVID-19 vaccine. Further, medical practices can now book onsite interpreters on weekends for COVID-19 vaccination purposes. Telephone interpreting services continue to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days week.
- Extended the Free Interpreting Service to pharmacies for the administration of COVID-19 vaccines to non-Medicare clients.

Department of Health: COVID-19 Vaccines Update
- COVID-19 vaccination now open to children 12 years and older: Children aged 12 years and older can now book an appointment for a COVID-19 vaccine. The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) recommends the Comirnaty (Pfizer) or Spikevax (Moderna) vaccine for people 12 years and older.
- How to speak to kids about COVID-19 vaccines: It’s natural for children to be curious and to have lots of questions about COVID-19 vaccinations. The Department of Health has provided some tips for speaking to children before and after they receive a vaccine.
- COVID-19 vaccine information for teens and parents/guardians: There are lots of reasons for young people to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Check out this resource for key information on vaccines for teens, and their parents and guardians.
MyAus App: Now in Dari, Hazaragi and Urdu
Migration Council Australia has updated its MyAus App to include Dari, Hazaragi and Urdu translations. Work is currently underway to translate the app into Pashto. The app is also available in Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, Turkish and English.
The App includes 500 articles and 40 short videos with information to assist newly arrived migrants to settle in Australia. The app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.

Fair Work Ombudsman: Australia’s workplace laws
The Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) provides information and advice to help employers and employees understand Australia’s workplace laws.
The FWO’s Pacific Labour Scheme playlist on YouTube contains five short videos about working in Australia.
The FWO has also published translated and sub-titled videos about the National Employment Standards which were introduced earlier this year. They are available in Vietnamese, Mandarin, Korean, Cantonese and Arabic and are designed to assist multicultural communities understand the National Employment Standards.

Services Australia: Translated information on social work services
Services Australia has published written and audio information about its social work services. If customers are going through a difficult time, their social workers can help. Written information is available in 15 languages including Arabic, Turkish and Macedonian.
Podcasts are also available in 10 languages including Spanish, Vietnamese and Greek.

On 25 January 2021, the Department of Home Affairs established a website and four social media channels celebrating Australian Values:

COVID-19: Staying safe when gathering with family and friends
The Department of Health has produced translated audio recordings about staying safe during social gatherings. The recordings are available in Dari, Greek, Italian, English, Korean, Lao, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Traditional Chinese and Vietnamese.

Tax time resources
SCAMwatch and the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) are urging consumers and small businesses to be aware of scam calls or emails around tax time. A fact sheet titled ‘Beware of tax time scams’, is available from the ATO publications website in Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Dari, English, Farsi, Khmer, Korean, Nepali, Spanish, Thai, Vietnamese.
Tax time guides and a checklist in up to 19 languages is available at ato.gov.au/TaxTimeResources.
JobKeeper extension
New in-language resources, including videos, are available in 16 languages:
